Background

Saacosh Academy was established in 2016 as a subsidiary of Saacosh (Pty) Ltd with the exclusive objective of providing cutting edge, highly relevant workplace orientated education and development for students and practitioners who have a passion for Occupational Health and Safety.

Saacosh Academy proudly offers students that are registered in the NQF level 5, 3-year Occupational Health and Safety Practitioner Certificate, an excellent learning opportunity through a blended learning approach backed by a highly responsive and flexible Learning and Support Centre on a virtual platform.

Student progress are monitored and managed through our state-of-the-art Learner Management System (LMS) that integrates seamlessly with our Learning and Support Centre as well as the Learner Management Information System (LMIS) of the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) (referred to as “Administrator” Computer & Internet Facilities).

OHSPRAC Occupational Certificate

NQF Level 5 – 256 Credits
The purpose of this qualification is to prepare a learner to operate as an Occupational Health and Safety Practitioner. An Occupational Health and Safety Practitioner serves as a facilitator and advisor to employees and management regarding safety and health aspects in the workplace including the monitoring and inspecting of the workplace and the recording and investigation of incidents and accidents. They also implement and maintain Occupational Health and Safety systems to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.

Learning and Support Centre

The Learning and Support Centre (LSC) for public and distance learning students is a developmental teaching program that serves as an academic support system for students. The Learning and Support Centre will assist students in the ongoing development of academic skills which contribute to positive adjustment to, and performance in a learning environment.

Distance learning, as the name implies, is a learning system that allows students to study remotely. Instead of attending all sessions and lectures at a designated training facility, students can study long-distance with the help of various tools. This typically include online learning (e-learning), study letters send by e-mail to students, written assignments, telephone support, virtual classes and discussion forums.

This system is also ideal for students who live far away from the SAACOSH training centre. This can be a very cost-effective way of learning.

The e-tutor at the Learning and Support Centre are there to guide the student, give him/her advice, explain difficult concepts and generally enrich their SAACOSH learning experience. The Learning and Support Centre will assist students to use study methods which fit their preferred learning style best. (A questionnaire will be used to determine the learning style of each of the students). The LSC can also advice students with learning and time management challenges concerning their studies.

Assessment Centre

Saacosh Academy has been accredited in January 2021 by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) to conduct external integrated summative assessments (EISA) for students who has completed the OHSPRAC curriculum and are eligible to receive the Occupational Certificate at the QCTO.

The assessment process consists of an online knowledge and skills assessment as well as a face-to-face evaluation session at the company’s offices. Both full-time students as well as students who applied for recognition of prior learning (RPL) can submit their application with their portfolio of evidence (POE) to be assessed for competency.
